10 things to do if you are bored to the death
There might be some time when you don’t find any interest in anything usual or get plain old bored doing the same usual things that you do on a day to day basis. Below are some not so traditional methods that you will help you get out of your boredom.
Here are 10 things I came up with you can give a try.
1. Go Fishing:
If you are into fishing, or even if you are not, try going for a fishing trip. I know lot of people who never tried fishing before and going to fishing for the first day got them hooked up into this sport.
If you have kids, grab a $5 walmart rod, buy a dozen earth worm from a bait shop and hot the lake or the river. I can guarantee you that your kid(s) are gonna LOVE it.
2. Go for a long drive around the country side:
Just the mere view of the nature can refresh your mind and body. If you live in the city or in a populated town, a trip to the country side seeing the nature, trees, landscape, hills, mountains, river, lake etc can work like a tonic. I know I could drive for hours just seeing nature.
My most favorite time for driving around the country however is winter when everything covered in snow and fall when the trees get into their fall color.
3. Let your creativity run wild:
Have a computer? Any photo editing program on the computer? If not, you can download GIMP for free and try playing around with it. Editing some of your favorite digital photos like playing around with contrast/brightness, try to learn how to use clipping path to clip an image or an element out and put it in another picture or by itself can be lot of fun.
WARNING: This is addictive. Once you are into it, you will not be able to stop.
4. Hit the kitchen, cook a new recipe:
Well, this may come to you as a surprise, but spending some time cooking a new recipe can actually refresh your mind and soul. Try to thing of a dish you want to eat and look up the recipe on the internet. These day, practically any recipe from any part of the world can be found on Youtube. Look up the recipe, go shopping if you need to, and get busy.
Some recipe can take as little as 15 minutes while some can take 1-2+ hours. Depending on what you want to eat and how much time you want to spend cooking, you find yourself a recipe that you want to try and see how it works out.
You can invite someone over as well if you want to share the meal.
5. Go for a long walk in to the woods:
This might not be for everyone as you might not have woods or trails nearby to walk around. I’m in Canada and no mater where I go, there are parks, woods, protected forests, conservation areas etc everywhere. I could just walk out of my house and hit the trail for walking into the woods in less than 10 minutes distance. I always feel rejuvenated when I walk along the forest trails.
It gets even better if you have a creek running through the woods and trail that follows it. The mere sound of the flowing water, birds and other wildlife sounds etc will help you rejuvenate.
6: Work on a hobby project:
Almost everyone has a hobby and you might have one as well. If you really like doing something but can’t find the time to do that on a more frequent basis, its about time to spend the time doing it.
7: Grow some vegetables (or flowers):
It might sound gay to some people, but growing your own greens can not only put some fresh organic food on your table, it can refresh your mind and should as well. I could spend hours working in my summer garden. Even in winter when everything covered in snow, I have some indoor houseplants and herb planters that brightens up my house, gives me fresh oxygen, and provides me fresh basil and other herbs for my pesto and other dishes.
Try it out, you might just like it. All you need is a $1 pot from your local dollar store, some potting soil and a plant or some seeds. If you are into first time gardening or planting, look-up some instructional videos on youtube on how to grow certain plants.
8: Take martial art lesson:
Go get yourself admitted into a martial arts academy and learn martial arts. Some might think it is high impact sport and not for everyone. But there are some dojos (martial arts methods) which are for everyone, even for women and children.
For example: Wing Chun and Aikido. In Aikido, you do heavy stretching that keeps your body and all joints healthy. In this art, you do not use any physical force to harm the opponent but you simply redirect your opponent’s energy to use it against your opponent.
Practicing martial arts can not only keep you fit but also help you defend yourself in certain situations.
9. Home improvement:
Start a home improvement project. Whether it is paining a wall or putting a back splash on the kitchen or adding some crown moulding on your ceilings, a home improvement project can not only help you keep busy, but it will make your house look nicer. Not to mention an increase in your property value depending on what project you are working on.
Again, youtube is a good source for finding lot of DIY (do it yourself) videos.
10. Get a night vision and explore the nightlife:
You will be amazed what you can see with a nigh vision. Go to the park with not much or no lights, or go to the woods if you can brave it at night time. Turn your light vision on and see what you would not see otherwise :).
